<p>The “blank” kits include the 6mm vintage plywood for your frame, 1/8" maple or birch for the large X platform pieces, 1/8" birch plywood for the smaller X platform pieces, 5mm birch plywood for the Y platform pieces, a 3/16" clear acrylic Z platform and 3mm magnets.</p>

<p>Personalize your MakerBot with a custom frame laser cut from vintage** plywood!</p>
<p>MakerGear has beautiful and unique custom frames available in a variety of vintage plywoods from the 1960’s. All of this plywood has been well-kept and is in very good condition. It is perfect for your (nearly) one of a kind MakerBot!</p>
<p>Our stock includes maple, cherry, mahogany, douglas fir and a couple of sheets we haven’t identified yet. These vintage plywood sheets are 6mm thick (a real 1/4") with a 4mm solid core and ~1mm of veneer on each face.</p>
<p>MapleBot – The maple plywood consists of both maple and poplar veneers. The 4mm solid core is sandwiched between a 1mm maple veneer on one side and a 1mm poplar veneer on the other side. The outer maple face is a beautiful creamy color and the inner poplar face is an almost uniform white – similar to a sheet of paper. The solid core produces a very nice edge as it gets toasted but not burnt in the laser (see photo). The X and Y stages for the MapleBot are cut from 1/8" solid maple with the fragile pieces cut from 1/8" 3-ply Baltic birch plywood.</p>
<p>Bot-hogany – Our mahogany plywood is a rich, shimmering color that will make a gorgeous MakerBot. Based on comparison to reference samples, it appears to be genuine mahogany, but we cannot certify this wood’s origin. We can confidently tell you, however, that this is indeed a very nice piece of wood! The 4mm core is pressed between a ~1mm mahogany veneer face and a ~1mm luan veneer backing.</p>
<p>DougBot – the douglas fir plywood is A/D grade. This means that the front ~1mm veneer face is cabinet grade while the ~1mm veneer back has imperfections. Tyger (the first MakerGear MakerBot) was made from this charismatic “tiger grained” plywood and we believe that the imperfections simply add character.</p>

<p>All of our vintage plywood pieces will be cut so that the majority of the burn residue will be on the inside veneer (the side facing the inside of the MakerBot). This would be the poplar side (on the maple version), the luan side (on the mahogany version) or the D-grade side (on the douglas fir).</p>
<p>The X and Y platforms are cut from 1/8" solid wood (maple or oak, depending on stock) with the more fragile pieces cut from 1/8" birch plywood. This results is a sound, functional and very attractive final product.</p>
<p>Though we acquired the entire inventory of vintage plywood we really don’t have very much – only one or two 4′×8′ sheets of each type (twice that amount of the douglas fir). Supplies are limited and each frame is cut to order, so don’t delay – Order Now!</p>
