Stepper Plastruder Instructions - BrutHead

To assemble the BrutHead you'll need the parts found in 'Brut Bags' #2 and #3

Insert the 608 bearing into the idler block and secure it with the threaded stud.

The 60mm M4 screws should slide easily through the mounting holes on the BrutHead and Idler block. If not, use a file or ~4mm drill bit to clear the openings. Prepare the M4 screws as shown. For Batches 1 and 2 - the long spring was cut into four even pieces. The short piece of spring is extra. Batch 3 and later will receive 5 pre-cut springs - one is an extra.

It is very important to recognize that the BrutHead is not symmetrical. One side is a little wider than the other. Make sure the idler block is gets properly oriented. Later, when you are mounting the BrutHead, you'll need to keep this in mind otherwise you may put it all together and find the filament guides don't match and the filament can't get through. We've include ~3" metal rod that you can use to check the filament guide alignment.

Insert the M4 screws/springs/washers into into the idler block and BrutHead. If you look closely at the idler block you'll see that one face is slightly thicker than the other. Orient the narrower face toward the idler block (though it should be fine either way). Then push the M4 screws all the way through the BrutHead and attach the M4 nuts.

Once the M4 nuts are attached, pull them in to the BrutHead.

The M6 screws are only partially threaded. Tighten the screws all the way using the included hex wrench and you should have proper tension. Though you may want to experiment with different tension levels after your Stepper Plastruder is operational.

Once you are up and running print your own BrutHead and Idler block in the color and material of your choice - the stl files are posted.
