Mosaic Instructions - Extruder

Important: Some software (Pronterface, for example) defaults to 230C for ABS. Unless you know that your plastic requires a higher temp, you should not need to run your Mosaic extruder above 215C.

Extruder Harness

Extruder Mount

Insert the motor through the extruder mount (the C clamp) before attaching the filament drive. Two M4x16 screws are used to tighten the clamp. Just tighten the clamp so that the extruder does not wiggle during printing - the clamp does not need to be very tight.

Filament Drive and Hot-End

The filament drive is the white plastic part. When the hot-end is mounted on the filament drive, the entire apparatus is called the extruder. The hot-end consists of the black components that are mounted on the filament drive. The two M3x30 screws go in the two lower mounting holes on the filament drive. The M3x40 holds the fan and goes into the mounting hole on the upper left. There is a nylon spacer between the fan and the filament drive.

Extruder Mounted

If you remove the hot-end (black parts) from the filament drive (white) be sure to insert it all the way in and that the filament path between the filament drive and the hot-end is aligned. You may need to use a vise to get it all the way in.

Extruder Mounted and Wired

Connect the heater and thermistor to the corresponding connectors. Connect the fan to the connector that has a corresponding connector on the electronics side (probably the red/gray pair). The other wires/connectors are for future options.
